The raft is the one who guides the raft in the floating of the timber. The raft is a flat-shaped boat formed by tree trunks or plants linked together, governed by an oar, called the steering oar. The person who maneuvers the oar, or who practices this trade, is called rafts. The raft was mainly used by primitive peoples; but now it is used as a means of transporting goods such as timber and the job of the raft is still practiced today. The rafts base their operating principle on the fact that the specific weight of the wood is lower than that of water, thus allowing it to float according to the well-known principle of Archimedes. There are also other types of life rafts used on boats in case of emergency; they are formed by self-inflating tubes usually orange or red, which were called Carley rafts, from the name of its inventor. An owner's manual is supplied with the raft containing at least the following information: manufacturer name or trademark, description of the raft, information for transport and stowage, instructions for use, advice on survival on board and instructions for maintenance and overhaul of the raft. Inside each raft there is a user manual containing the following information: registration of all the inspections carried out with the indication of the inspection station, the type of intervention carried out, the equipment replaced, the date, the stamp and the signature of the person responsible for the operation.
