This course will enable you to create key research and systematic aptitudes alongside your practical competencies. Since there is such a great amount of flexibility within the curriculum, you can extend your insight within focused areas of investment, asset management or development.

You will study six modules. These have been intended to guarantee that they line up with the core competencies of the RICS, yet at the same time enabling you to pursue your particular interests through your research project. The project culminates in the unique master's conference, and you'll also get the opportunity to take part in an international residential field trip.

Part time students can register for their RICS assessment programme once enrolled on the MSc Real Estate programme.

The largest proportion of our full time students go on to the graduate entry schemes of major firms of chartered surveyors in the UK, going through the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence to become qualified professionals. Many of our successful alumni and current part time students work in the real estate sector for firms such as Knight Frank, CBRE, PNB Paribas, Jones Lang LaSalle, DTZ, Cushman and Wakefield, the Crown Estate, Network Rail, British Land, Land Securities and other international and national firms, public bodies and private companies. Once you've graduated you'll have the opportunity to work in the following sectors;

Agency;
Valuation;
Asset management;
Property finance.
The Institute of Real Estate are currently working with Charlotte University to introduce a an integrated development project whereby the MSc Real Estate UK students can work with US students studying a similar programme. This will extend their network, provide an understanding of international property markets and ability to work in international groups.

Course programme

Course structure

This programme is delivered full time over one year or part-time over two academic years commencing in September. It is taught through a series of short intensive teaching blocks of three days (usually from Thursday to Saturday inclusive). Each module comprises two study blocks. Full time students study 2 x 30 credit modules per semester which is a 3 day study block every 3 weeks while part time students study 1 x 30 credit module a term which is approximately one study block every 6 weeks making it ideal for those in full-time employment. Students will study 6 assessed modules which have been designed to ensure alignment with the business, ethics and technical competencies of the RICS's Assessment of Professional Competence (APC)

The modules allow students to pursue individual interests through the design and execution of an independent research project. This culminates in the unique Kingston Surveying and Planning Masters Conference. There is also a week-long residential field study trip to a major international city.

Assessment

Most modules are delivered by face-to-face lectures, workshops and seminars, complemented by e-learning resources and methods. However the first module is delivered alongside the induction programme which covers University life, the extensive e-resource base which will help underpin your studies, and the assessment regime. Assessment is through coursework, practical projects and on line discussions. There are no formal examinations on this program
