Good news for printmakers and print lovers! The noted Chinese Master Printmaker, He Kun, is visiting the studio at St Barnabas Press in Cambridge early this year. During his visiting, he will teach a three day reduction woodcut course.
Reduction printmaking involves cutting a single wood block further after each colour has been printed. He Kun demonstrates his lively technique of woodcut mark making and building up layers of colour and texture in oil based inks. He encourages both beginners and experienced printmakers to experiment widely in a most satisfying manner.
He Kun was the first Chinese artist to visit the studio and since 2000 he has returned every two or three years to show new works and teach here. This is a unique opportunity to learn from, and work with, an outstanding contemporary Chinese printmaker. “Many of us have benefited from his courses and would recommend them highly. I enjoyed the opportunity to learn directly from He Kun. Working alongside others in a small group was also very stimulating. As a result I have continued to use these methods and incorporate them into my own work.” says local artist, Julia Kemp.
He Kun’s work is strongly influenced by the landscape of the Yunnan Province in south-western China.
