About this course

Students aged 16 to 18 will need 28 GCSE points. Students aged 19 or over should have a keen interest in reflexology together with a good level of general education comparable to GCSE of pass level or above. In addition all students must provide their own clients for practical assessments towards the end of the course which will be discussed in more detail at your first class.

Introduction:
Reflexology is a form of treatment based on the belief that the body is dependent upon energy flows which can be improved through specific massage of feet, hands and ears. The treatment is primarily used for stimulation of systems, relaxation, stress relief and alleviation of minor symptoms. This qualification provides all the skills required of reflexologists in general practice.

Study Mode & Location:
This 30 week course (20 weeks class contact and 10 weeks out of college) will last for 3 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
You will study consultation techniques, reflex zone and foot massage. You will examine the various reflexology techniques and carry out practical treatments on clients within the salon. Other areas of study include:

  • disorders and diseases of the skin
  • anatomy & physiology
  • physiology (VR02/74)


Assessment:
Assessment will be carried out during the course by an assessor observing and questioning your practical work. Some aspects of the work will be covered by simulated tasks and assignments, whilst some units will also have mandatory written papers and external exams. As the assessment becomes more familiar, you will be able to take control in the planning of your own assessments together with the development of your portfolio (which will contain evidence of your work including assignments and case study work). You will also carry out practical treatments on clients and client consultations in a modern working environment (eg the College`s own salons). The assessor will watch you working and assess your performance against national standards. You will be asked to provide paying clients for assessment purposes.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Therapies or Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 2. On completion of the Diploma, you may go on to employment in the Health & Beauty Industry or progress to related courses.

Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
