Overview At a glance The Registered Nurse Re-Entry Course (CRNRC) is designed for Registered Nurses who have let their registration lapse or have not practiced in a nursing role for a minimum of five years. Delivery Mode Distance Availability Distance Education Intake Dates February; July; October Completion of the Registered Nurse Re-Entry Course (CRNRC) does not guarantee registration. The final decision is that of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Hours of study The Registered Nurse Re-Entry Course (CRNRC) can be completed in 16 weeks. You are required to complete the course within 12 months of commencing.

Upon successful completion of Registered Nurse Re-Entry Course (CRNRC), you will be recommended to the Board for Registration.
Total Cost: $9165 (subject to change without notice), or can be paid in two payments of $4600. Please note scholarships are available for full cost of this course. Further information can be found at /scholarships.
Entry RequirementsTo be eligible to enrol in this short course, you must complete the following steps:
- Review the Re-entry to practice policy. You are required to meet the criteria specified.
- Apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) for permission to gain registration.
- Provide the Centre for Professional Development (CPD) with confirmation from NMBA and apply for one of the CRNRC intake dates.
The course is offered by distance education with a theoretical component of ten weeks full-time study, a three day compulsory Clinical Skills Workshop at CQUniversity Rockhampton North and 160 hours of supernumerary clinical placement in a CPD approved facility.

PrerequisitesTo enrol in this course, you are required to have had previous registration with AHPRA, with a lapse of between five and ten years.
Clinical placement prerequisites include:
- completion of CPR with a nationally accredited training provider.
- Australian Federal Police National Check - Code #37 'partial disclosure'
- Hepatitis B Immunisation
- Pertussis Immunisation
- Mantoux Screening
- working with children check - 'Student Blue Card'
- Queensland Health Online Student Orientation
- CQUniversity Preclinical Student Checklist.
You will be required to complete 160 hours of clinical placement at an approved facility. Placement must be undertaken full-time over a period of four weeks, or part-time over a period of seven weeks and must be completed within a 12 month time period.
CompetencyWorkplace competency is undertaken during clinical placement.
Program StructureThe CRNRC course is undertaken in three parts:
Online Theoretical Coursework (10 weeks):
- Understanding the Australian Health Care System
- Professional Communication
- Assessment and Care Planning
- Legal and Ethical Frameworks
- Professional Nurse Practice
- Leadership and Teamwork
- Evidence Based Clinical Practice
- Culture and Health
- Pharmacology
- Mental Health Nursing.
Overall, completition of this component requires committment of approximately 400 hours over a period of ten weeks. Upon completion, you will have:
- developed the knowledge and skills required as a Registered Nurse and be able to provide nursing care competently and within the overarching context of safe practice;
- the neccessary knowledge and skills to re-enter the nursing profession as a safe and competent nurse in line with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council.
Clinical Skills Workshop:
You will be required to attend a three day Clinical Skills Workshop in preparation for clinical placement. The workshop aims to refresh clinical psychomotor skills as well as introduce concepts in contemporary clinical practice, updated documentation, and other useful resources. Skills are taught using evidence based best practice.
The workshop is scheduled around Week 12- 13 of the course and traditionally occur at CQUniversity Noosa or Rockhampton.
Clinical Placement:
The purpose of 160 hours (full-time over four weeks or part-time over seven weeks) of supernumerary (unpaid) clinical placement is to provide you with an opportunity to refresh and/or upgrade your skills in the clinical setting and demonstrate minimum competence as a RN in compliance with the ANMAC minimum standards.
Placement opportunities will be formally arranged by CPD and the facility, in consultation with you.
