Course programme

Course overview

The course consists of three separate awards: the PG Cert, the PG Dip and the MSc - which provides an opportunity to carry out a significant piece of research in the field. These awards are delivered by distance learning, mostly online, and are part-time, so you can combine your study with work.

Benefits to the student
You will: gain a postgraduate qualification in regulation practice, policy and theory; acquire valuable skills to meet your career progression needs; research practical issues in regulation and inspection of concern to you and/or your organisation.

Benefits to the employer
Your organisation will benefit from: the increased flexibility and problem-solving capacity of students completing our course; the ability of students to place the task of regulating within a policy context, at both national and international level; students' analyses of the specific regulatory issues faced by your organisation and recommendations for practice development.

Core modules

The taught modules are available as stand-alone courses or can be combined into the academic awards below. Some elements around the development of regulatory practice can be customised by prior negotiation with sponsoring employers.

Our PG Cert is a one year course consisting of:

  • Perspectives on Regulation
  • Compliance and Regulation

Our PG Dip is a two year course incorporating the previous two modules with:

  • The Management of Regulation
  • Research Studies

To gain our MSc you must complete a third year, which provides the opportunity for a major research project:

  • Dissertation

Assessment

For each taught module there will be one assessment. These take the form of a report, essay, case study, direct observation or practice analysis. For years one and two there are therefore two assessments per year. In the third year there is only one assessment - the MSc Dissertation.

Dedication

Up to 3 years, part-time.
