About this course
The Reproductive and Developmental Biology programme is available as: 5-month full-time PG Certificate (PG Cert) a full Master's degree (MSc) (12 months full-time) The aim of the PG Certificate is to provide an opportunity for scientists and clinicians to specialise in reproductive and developmental biology. The primary focus is on the basic sciences, and their application to selected clinical aspects of the subject. It provides a sound training for a further career in scientific research or as a foundation to the MSc course. It may also provide a more scientific perspective to anyone working within a more clinical field.
All applicants must apply online. You can usually apply for up to two courses, although your second choice will only be considered if your first-choice application is unsuccessful. Course contentThe main topics of the course are:
- Development of the female and male reproductive systems
- Endocrinology – activation of the gonads and regulation of gametogenesis
- Fertilisation and early embryo development
- Pregnancy
- Development and stem cell biology
From October to February you will attend taught topics that include 10–12 lectures per week.
During this time, you will be expected to complete four essays of 2,500 words. The marks of the coursework assessments together contribute 67% to your final result.
You will undertake two three-hour written examinations (one in January and one in March), which together contribute 33% to the final result.
