About this course

Career Progression

Work placements are provided so that relevant experience can be gained to help with the transition into the world of work.
These are generally offered in the retail sector and can be on site initially to allow students to gain confidence and experience, then they would progress onto other placements. If students show interest in other areas this can be discussed with the Job Coach/Work Placement officer.

Students' progress is monitored whilst on the placements and a reference is taken to support them in applying for their next step.

Course programme

Summary

This course is a personalised programme with a focus on preparation for the future beyond college, specialising in retail and administration. It is based around practical skills preparing individuals for employment in the retail vocational area and focuses on their transition away from the college environment and into the world of work.Culminating with an accredited ASDAN Employability entry qualification ( award or certificate) at entry 2 or 3.

All course work will be integrated into college enterprises or supported work placement.

Students on this course are responsible for the Amazing Crates milk delivery round and day to day running of Scribbles, the college's stationery shop. Tasks include till work, stock replenishment and general cleaning. Customer interaction enables students to improve their communication and customer service skills and generally boost self esteem/confidence.

Working in Scribbles raises awareness of the importance of preparation and planning, money management and personal presentation.

Alongside the practical timetable there are sessions for students to work on their existing English, Maths and ICT Functional Skills.

The course takes place over three days per week. Work placements can be arranged.

Additional information

Progression Following completion of the course options could include: Mint Employment Agency, which offers support with job searching and coaching to allow students with a barrier to employment to progress into the world of work.
