The Risorgimento is the scholar of the history of the Risorgimento, a profession also known by the term of Risorgimento historian. The Risorgimento is the period of Italian history during which Italy achieved its national unity [3]. The proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy on 17 March 1861 was the formal act that sanctioned, by the Kingdom of Sardinia, the birth of the new Kingdom of Italy formed with the plebiscite annexations of most of the pre-unification states. The term "unification of Italy" is also used to indicate this historical process. As a political phenomenon, the Risorgimento is understood by some historians between the proclamation of Rimini (1815) and the breach of Porta Pia by the Italian army (20 September 1870), by others, between the first constitutional uprisings of 1820-1821 and the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy (1861) or the end of the third war of independence (1866). Italy was the birthplace and the first field of expansion of Roman power and was integrated into the state in different ways; the administrative system of Italy remained distinct from that of the provinces until the time of Diocletian. The provinces were in fact territories governed by magistrates delegated by the central power, [14] while the annexation and then the administration of Italy was articulated through the foundation of Roman and Latin colonies, with the stipulation of alliance treaties and confiscations of the territory . Roman Italy was a vast territory marked by a notable ethnic and social variety, which, while retaining strong local particularities, since the end of the Roman republic it underwent a process of unification under a single legal regime. The concept of nation-state is certainly anachronistic if applied to the ancient world, however the historical memory of Roman Italy was particularly evoked in the period of formation of the modern Italian nation.
