Successful students will have to demonstrate their knowledge and capabilities in the following core competencies: lifeguard theory; cardio pulmonary resuscitation; first aid; pool skills and open water skills. The theory part of the course covers the role of a lifeguard, beach safety operating procedures, hazard awareness and the importance of accident prevention. Suitable for: This course is aimed at people who wish to work as a beach lifeguard or gain accreditation in life saving skills.

About this course
Candidates must be physically fit and confident swimming in the sea and through surf. Candidates must be able to swim 400m in a pool in under eight minutes before commencing the course. Students are assessed by an independent RLSS qualified assessor who looks for a sound knowledge and understanding of beach lifeguarding principles and safe practices.

Course content:
The National Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NBLQ) course is run in association with the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS). This qualification is an essential requirement for working as a lifeguard on British beaches and is recognised by many international lifesaving bodies.
Training involves a series of modules combining practical and theory sessions with an average of three to five hours spent in the water each day. Students must successfully complete each module to gain the qualification.
