2. Course description The aim of the course is to introduce basic phrases and language for use in common real life situations. Typical topics covered at Stage 1 may include: • greetings, giving personal and family information; • ordering food and drink; • shopping for food and clothes. Different topics are covered each term. Sessions are lively and varied with goals tailored to individual needs. The emphasis is on speaking and listening, with pair and group activities to maximise opportunities to speak in the language.

3. Entry requirements Stage 1 is for absolute beginners with no previous knowledge of the language. This course will enable you to 'get by' and cope with everyday situations. The emphasis is on listening, speaking and understanding.If you have studied the language before (for a year or more) but lack confidence or feel rusty, you should join a Stage 2 course. These are designed for learners with some basic knowledge and those who want to 'restart'. New learners are welcome to join Terms 2 & 3 but will need some previous knowledge of the language. Different topics and structures are covered each term, so complete beginners should start with a Taster, For your Holidays or Term 1 course.If you have any questions, please ask the Customer Service Team for advice.We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. Please let staff know if you require any extra support when you enrol and they will arrange for a member of the Supported Learning Team to contact you to discuss your support needs.
