2. Course description The aim of the course is to extend language skills to work towards fluency and accuracy. Course content and learning goals will be discussed at the first session, so that they can be tailored to the needs and interests of the group. You will have the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues. Topics at the higher levels cover a wide range of subjects and may include the following: • discussion of news and current affairs; • films, plays, books, songs, humour; • discovering regions of the world in which the language is spoken and their customs and traditions; • learning how to deal with practical aspects of daily life overseas: • travelling, working and retiring in the country. Different topics are covered each term. Sessions are lively and varied and draw on a range of authentic sources from articles in the press, internet and TV to extend your reading and listening skills. Vocabulary, grammar and lexical structures will be addressed in context.

Entry requirements Stage 5 & 5+ are for learners with a good working knowledge of the language, who wish to improve accuracy and the ability to express themselves on a range of topics.For guidance on choosing the right course, please complete a self-assessment form, which will give an indication of the stage you are at in the language. The self-assessment form is available on the Surrey Adult Learning website or from the Customer Service Team.New learners are welcome to join Terms 2 & 3 provided they are the right level for the course.If you have any questions, please ask the Customer Service Team for advice.We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. Please let staff know if you require any extra support when you enrol and they will arrange for a member of the Supported Learning Team to contact you to discuss your support needs.
