Principal

Rupert Emerson has been sailing dinghies all his life and yachts for several years. He has sailed around Britain - see www.kippatravels.com. He is a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster and Cruising Instructor.

Course programme

The format is 12 evenings. The RYA Day Skipper course is great for people who have had limited time at sea. It is an opportunity to learn about navigation, weather, safety, tides, charts and skippering a motor or sailing yacht. The style of course delivery is interactive. There is group discussion, individual work that is fully supported by your enthusiastic tutor and projects where you learn in pairs or threes. All ages from 18 to 80 enjoy the course because everyone's knowledge is shared and developed. The whole concept is very different from the old-fashioned adult education evening class where you sit behind desks in a class room staring at a board or screen getting thoroughly bored. It is professional, but it is fun too so you learn much more than you expect.
