The International University Foundation Program (IUFP) is an eight-month program designed for international students who want to strengthen their academic and personal foundations while learning to navigate university life in Canada.

The program provides a foundation year for applicants who need additional academic support to meet the overall competitive and/or subject requirements for admission into their chosen undergraduate program of study. Students who successfully complete the IUFP gain guaranteed admission to their program of choice (excluding all Grades Plus programs and programs in the Faculty of Engineering & Architectural Sciences) with at least four (and up to six) undergraduate course credits in September of the following year.

Course programme

How is the Program Structured?

The IUFP is eight months (two semesters) long, with an optional summer semester. It includes a combination of university credit and non-credit courses. Students in the program have the opportunity to earn between four and six university undergraduate degree-credits. Some or all of these credits may count towards the graduation requirements of a student's undergraduate degree program (e.g. Liberal Studies requirements).

In addition, students will benefit from learning essential university success strategies through non-credit academic preparation courses. The undergraduate degree program of choice begins the following September.

Other components of the program include:
  • Learning Labs (supervised study sessions)
  • Meetings with instructors
