Safe Handling of Medicines Course This programme is aimed at people working or wishing to work in a health and social care context and is ideal for those who wish to develop a basis of transferable knowledge and skills in the safe handling of medicines. It is designed to ensure that candidates will gain an understanding of policies and procedures for the handling and storing of medicines and the correct method of record keeping. It is appropriate for care workers working towards the National Care Standards at Induction and Foundation levels. It can also support the requirement to meet the content of the Skills for Care Knowledge Set for medicines, and it can contribute to the Skills for Care Common Induction Standards.

Unit 1: Introduction to medicine and prescriptions
Unit 2: Medicine supply storage and disposal
Unit 3:The safe administration of medication
Unit 4: Quality control and record keeping in the administration of medication
Unit 5: Accountability, responsibility and confidentiality in the administration of medication
Study Hours
