The QCC (Quality Care Commission) advises that all care workers understand training related to the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults. This course provides a foundation of educational skills in the Safeguarding Adults at an introductory level.

The Objectives of the Course are to:
Understand the roles and responsibilities and accountability of all those involved in the Safe Guarding of Vulnerable Adults.
Have the ability to recognise those at risk and the types of abuse and harm.
At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).

The course includes the following units:
Unit 1 - SoVA LegislationTopics include: Aims and Objectives, Who is a vulnerable adult? The Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS), Who must be checked? The Care Quality Commission (CQC), The Mental Capacity Act (2005), Depravation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS).
Unit 2 - Understanding Abuse and NeglectTopics include: Aims and Objectives, Abuse and Neglect (often called elder abuse and neglect), Types of Neglect, Types of Abuse, How to recognise neglect and abuse, Possible Causes of Self-Neglect, Possible Causes of Elder Abuse, Reporting Abuse.
Unit 3 - Understanding the Importance of Communication in CareTopics include: Aims and Objectives, What is communication? Different types of Communication, Making sure that people understand, Is the message getting through? Using Questions, Barriers to Communication, Abusive Communication, Written Communication.
Unit 4 - Challenging BehaviourTopics include: Aims and Objectives, What is challenging behaviour, The ‘ABC’ of Behaviour, The Law, Common Law – Assault and Battery, Risk Assessment, Empowering People.
Assessment:
The Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards is gained by successfully completing a series of assignments. Your personal tutor will review, mark and provide you with feedback on your work.
Coursework assignments can be returned by uploading to the online portal, by email or by post. We recommend that assignments are completed and returned as word-processed documents through the online portal. Handwritten documents can be accepted but need to be clear and legible and may be subject to a longer marking time.
