The saxophone player is the one who plays the saxophone, a simple reed aerophone musical instrument belonging to the wood family and not the brass ones as many think. Among the great classical performers, who were also valid composers, we remember Marcel Mulè (b. 1901), Jean-Marie Londeix (b. 1932), Sigurd Rascher (1907-2001); to them we owe the development of a modern didactics of the saxophone. From the early twentieth century onwards, with the advent and rapid development of jazz, the technical evolution of musicians went hand in hand with that of the instrument. The sax is a hybrid between the clarinet, of which it essentially retains the mouthpiece, and the ophicleide, an instrument of the brass family although it was built in wood, of low range whose body has a system of keys to modulate the pitches of the sounds . After making several prototypes, Adolphe Sax arrived at the definitive form of the saxophone by adopting brass as the construction material, as the main user of Adolphe Sax's innovative instruments was the military wind orchestra. Wood presents a series of problems related to wear, changes in climate and humidity that make it unsuitable for military life. Compared to the clarinet, which has a cylindrical bore, the inventor adopted a conical bore, similar to that of the ophicleide, which allowed a greater projection of the sound and a completely different emission. Since the bore is of different shape and size, the harmonic content of the sound is completely different. Furthermore, like the ophicleide, the saxophone is an "octaveggiante" instrument:
