Welcome to the School of Media, Film and MusicThe School of Media, Film and Music combines rigorous critical and historical studies of media, film, music and culture with opportunities for creative practice in a range of musical forms and the media of photography, film, radio, and interactive digital imaging.Built on excellent foundations the School of Media, Film and Music has a firmly established reputation in both teaching and research. Our programmes are taught by internationally respected researchers engaged in rigorous contemporary debates. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 100 per cent of our research activity in media and film was rated as recognised internationally or higher, and 75 per cent rated as internationally excellent or higher. 95 per cent of our research activity in music was rated as recognised internationally or higher, and one-fifth as world leading.New state-of-the-art TV, radio, photography and electronic music studios, together with a range of portable equipment, specialist music facilities, media and music labs, post-production facilities and our specialist media, film and music library support our students' learning. We offer strong links with national and regional creative, music and media organisations, and we bring international researchers and practitioners into the School to work closely with us.The School of Media, Film and Music offers an exciting and supportive context in which to to explore how the media in all their forms - as technologies, institutions, practices and texts - figure in modern life.
