To study the Access to A Level programme you will need grade C in THREE of the following (inc. short GCSEs) : English Language or Literature/Humanities (History,Geography,RS,Sociology,Psychology)/Business/Science (Core and Additional OR triple)/Maths ... and mainly grade D in other subjects OR be pre-16 home/Steiner educated (subject to screening)

Science Applied GCSE
GCSE Additional Applied Science is a course which is suitable for students who wish to develop their scientific understanding through a study of authentic, work-related contexts. You will explore how science underpins the activities at a range of science-related workplaces. It is expected that students taking this course will be looking to obtain a Science GCSE qualification or to improve their previous Science GCSE qualification from a grade lower than a C.
What does the course involve?
You will be studying three modules which are each assessed by a brief written paper. Practical work undertaken will be assessed as part of the work related portfolio. Taken together these provide an insight into the life of scientific practitioners, including the technical concepts and practical skills needed.
What will I study?
Lesson based studies: The three modules offered are Agriculture and Food, Scientific Detection and Materials and Performance. Within each theme you will study a number of scientific roles along with the relevant scientific knowledge required.
Work-related portfolio: As well as reporting the results of a laboratory investigation, you will have the opportunity to investigate a science related activity carried out in a factory or farm in detail.
