The BA (Hons) Screenwriting & Producing with Integrated Foundation includes a year of  studies at foundation level and is designed to prepare you for direct entry on to the BA (Hons) Screenwriting & Producing degree programme. From conception to realisation, the script is at the heart of a screen project. This programme is designed to develop the next generation of script writers and producers for the screen - individuals equipped to work on both sides of the film and television industry.  The degree trains and educates new young script writers in the commercial and production side of the screen industry, and develops key skills which are essential for career success as a script writer or producer. In addition, you will undertake a degree work placement in the creative industries that will provide you with invaluable first-hand experience and the opportunity to build your own network of industry contacts. About this course


Study methods Varied teaching methods include lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. You will have the opportunity to work on practical projects, both individually and in groups, replicating industry practice. As the programme progresses, you will specialise in your preferred script and production areas. Assessment structure Assessment methods include script analyses, screenplays, reflective blogs, presentations, essays, case studies and examinations. Group assessments constitute 50% of your overall degree and include short films, pitches and presentations, and written pitch documents.

Length

Four years, comprising one year of foundation studies followed by three years of study at degree level.

You will:

  • Develop competence in screenwriting practice and language, script formatting and terms, the process of script planning and story and plot refinement through script development stages
  • Build up gradually from writing shorter scripts to fully formed feature scripts
  • Devise and script a full-length movie screenplay and write, cast, direct and produce your own short film
  • Learn about the structure and mechanics of the screen industry, the criteria by which to judge new ideas and the skills to convert them into screen productions, plus marketing, legal issues, budgeting and financial practices
  • Develop the ability to manage your own and others’ creativity and to liaise effectively with writers, directors, actors and agents
  • Create your own one-hour TV drama series, including characters, locations and storylines, and a full script for the first episode
  • Learn to devise and shoot an industry-standard commercial
  • Undertake a degree work placement in the creative industries that will provide you with invaluable first-hand experience and the opportunity to build your own network of industry contacts.
