Sculpture is the art of giving shape to an object starting from a raw material or assembling different materials together. The term sculpture also indicates the final product, or any three-dimensional object obtained as an expression of artistic inspiration. Like many other terms relating to the art world, the concept of sculpture has also evolved over time. It is possible to model an object by addition or subtraction, and this depends on the type of material used: in the case of wood or marble, for example, it is subtracted, that is, it is sculpted by carving, engraving or removing part of the material with a suitable tool and when instead clay or a similar material is used, it works by addition, gradually adding matter to the initial one. For an artist, the choice of the material with which to create a work, derives from the technique he intends to use. The art of casting consists in melting metals, the plastic art instead proposes to model malleable materials, finally the sculpture refers to the carving of stone or hard materials. Sculpture is, by its very nature, a long art that prefers times and ways of great reflection. Let's see specifically what we are talking about!
