About this course

Course Benefits This course provides excellent preparation for studying a PGCE or other teacher training routes in Secondary Physical Education.
Gain teaching, coaching and volunteering experience and qualifications in the context of sports development and physical education.
Options to volunteer or study abroad with our partnership sports coaching projects.

Typically, our entry offer for this degree course is 112 UCAS tariff points.
Other requirements: For the old GCSE system we require grade C or above and for the new GCSE grading system we will accept grade 4 or higher in English Language and Maths.  GCSE Science is usually preferred but not essential.​
We welcome students with a wide range of qualifications such as A Levels, BTECs and accredited Access courses.  We treat every application on its own merits; we value highly the experience you illustrate in your personal statement.

Course Information Sports development involves identifying, enhancing and evaluating opportunities for people of all ages to take part in sport or physical activity. Acquiring the tools to do this and maintaining up-to-date knowledge about the ever-evolving face of sport in the UK is key to being successful in this role.   As a physical educator, you need excellent subject knowledge plus the ability to confidently plan and deliver engaging lessons and evaluate performance in all aspects of the national curriculum including games, athletics, outdoor and adventurous activities, swimming, gymnastics and dance. All of these skills and more will be gained on this course. All students will also have the opportunity to achieve a range of additional coaching and instructing awards.  Through real-life learning opportunities, professional work placements and modules tailored specifically for these purposes, you will be on the path to becoming an employable graduate in a career in which you will not only make a difference to people’s lives, but also gain personal job satisfaction.  Read our full course terms and conditions.
