Style Confidence: Dress For Your Shape

H
Hannah Gumbrill

What I would highlight: So glad I have already booked another class. I did the learn to knit class with Susan as someone who's never even picked up a needle before and at the end Susan had me knitting! It's great because you can take your own projects and work at different things. I have just signed up for the Style Confidence: Dress For Your Shape course. The little room where the classes are is gorgeous and decorated with all the lovely things you can make in classes. It's inspired me to learn how to sew as well now. I cannot recommend Sew in Brighton enough. Go along - you won't be disappointed!

Confident Curtain Making

4.5 14/07/2017
What I would highlight: I have done two workshops at Sew in Brighton and learnt some great stuff. The last one I took was the Confident Curtain Making course. I really recommend both of them - the curtain making which is excellent if you want to brush up on basic sewing machine skills and the retro lampshade course which teaches you a neat skill that will mean you never have to buy a lampshade again! All the classes are friendly, well-organised and informative, good value and great fun. Sign up for their newsletter and receive discounts as well.

Hobby to Professional: Zips and Buttonholes

What I would highlight: I took the Make Clothes from a Pattern class and the Zips and Buttonholes course. I absolutely loved it. Kat, was brilliant at showing us step-by-step how to do things and sharing all her amazing hints and tips that make a sewer's life so much easier. Despite having some sewing experience, I learned a lot of new things during the classes (sleeves, yayyy) and my sewing improved a lot in a short time. It's also great that not everyone in class does the same project, so you can always hover over someone else's table and see what they do. I would highly recommend the class to anyone with some or no experience of sewing clothes. The venue is also great, it feels like home, only with far more equipment, plus tea and biscuits.

What I would highlight: I have recenty finished the Knit & Crochet Class. Such a good expetience! Excellent atmosphere, small classes so you get plenty one to one if needed, we had two teachers at the evening. Teachers were quite friendly, great chat, enough of practical examples done by teacher how to do things and then followed by students exercise. I will be booking another course again, it's time for me, it's time to sew! I highly recommended this organisation.

What I would highlight: I cannot recommend Sew In Brighton enough. I have done the beginners' sewing course, the Thursday stitch evenings and I am currently doing the Replicate Your Clothes course. When I started I couldn't even thread my machine and now I'm starting to design and make my own clothes. There is always a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere and all the teachers are really knowledgeable and patient. The classes are also kept quite small so you're always guaranteed the help you need. Highly recommended Sew in Brighton.

What I would highlight: I came to Sew in Brighton and I was very happy with what I found! I am a beginner to dressmaking and pattern cutting and was keen to upgrade my skills in these areas. Helped by the very crafty Kat over a few sessions I learned more than I ever thought I would about dressmaking, pattern cutting and also many general tips about sewing in general. I will be attempting a dress next and definitely booking another set of classes for the future so that I can learn more and get the professional and expert help that Kat gives. She is helpful, kind and patient - a fantastic teacher (and as a teacher myself I am pretty picky when it comes to rating others abilities!) Looking to learn to sew? Or already a stitcher but need some help? Come to Sew in Brighton - it's great value and fantastic help!

Style Confidence: Dress For Your Shape

Isabella Marozzi
4.5 12/05/2017
What I would highlight: I have really enjoyed all my classes at the Sewing Lounge and am now completely addicted to sewing, dressmaking, clothes alterations, bag making, dress for your shape etc! I started with the Beginners Course which was a great start to learning to use a sewing machine (which had been sitting in my attic for the past 4 years...). I had lots of laughs with the other 5 girls on the course who were all beginners too, and amazed myself by producing a great shopper-type bag and make-up purse by the end. I now attend the Stitch Morning Thursday classes which are very flexible as you can bring pretty much any sewing project you need help with. Kat, the instructor, is a super-patient teacher and really helpful as well as having decades of sewing knowledge and experience.I am now so inspired to keep sewing and can't wait to wear my new dress.

Tailored Jacket Course

K
Kirsty Elmer
5.0 27/03/2017
What I would highlight: I am so glad that I have taken the Tailored Jacket Course - it's what I've been wanting to do for years and fitted the bill perfectly. Kat, the instructor, is very knowledgeable, helpful and willing to solve problems with you. We've loved it so much, we've asked for more pattern cutting courses, working on more advanced projects. I feel confident to design my own jackets and understand the logic behind creating curved forms from flat patterns. The classes are packed - you learn lots! - and fun, as you all learn together and share your pride when your toile fits or your design works. In addition, I also did the intensive Sunday sewing techniques workshop with Debra, which was a great way to refresh some skills and learn new ones, all in one day. A great value for money! I seriously can't recommend these courses enough! Learn how to make gorgeous clothes and save yourself a fortune.

What I would highlight: Two excellent one to one sessions with Laura at Sew in Brighton! I contacted Kat to arrange some personal tuition classes to show and help me with making a speedy cushion and finishing off quilts that I make and also some applique on the machine. The people at Sew In Brighton were brilliant at getting back to me quickly with a really flexible range of times that suited me, tuition was great, friendly and a really lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I will be highly recommending to friends and family, and will definitely take on some more one to one and classes. Superb! Thanks Kat and Laura. :)

What I would highlight: I learn how to sew from pattern at Sew in Brighton. Kat shares loads of tips and tricks during the class and teach me how to make clothes that fit perfectly on my body. I love the class; I enjoy the companion and the atmosphere. I definitely look forward to use her tips and tricks for my next sewing project. I am now finishing the Replicate Your Clothes course, and I'm loving it! And now I’m thinking to get another class for making your own pattern. What I would highlight: I started two different courses at Sew in Brighton a few months ago and finally got to do the Love Your Overlocker course. I loved it! My teacher was really patient and I'm now much more confident in threading up and using the machines, I'm even more inspired to book myself a spot on the Making Clothes from Patterns course so I can start creating my own wardrobe.

What I would highlight: I did the beginners class to learn how to use my sewing machine which had sat in a box for 6 months. Absolutely brilliant, I made a cushion cover and a purse (with darts!) and learnt how to thread up my machine. The classes at Sewing Lounge are very thorough and you can work at your own pace. The teachers are vey supportive and patient ! I love it so much I am now doing stitch classes making my own project (with lots of help). Heartily recommend you give it a go if you are toying with the idea of taking up sewing. Therapeutic, fun and a lovely friendly environment in which to learn to sew.

What I would highlight: I signed up for the Love Your Overlocker (or ours) course and I attended my first class for me today and it was fantastic, Kat who runs it was very helpful and really knows what she is doing. Even if you are experienced, like me, Kat has still taught me things I didn't know, wow. The class was very friendly and the sewing machines are modern and very easy to use. If you are looking for a sewing or pattern adapting class "this is the one". What can I say fantastic!

Advantages of studying here

CLASS SIZE/TESTIMONIALS: We have no more than 9 students per class. The classes cater for every level of experience so we keep numbers low, so you'll get plenty of help and attention. The classes have been full every week for a year and a half now. This is what some of our students have said...
"You can make what you like and start from any level. It isn't too structured. " Bryony
"I like the informal feel to the classes and how everyone does things at their own pace. I think that works really well, there is always plenty of help on hand and the atmosphere is always really relaxed. Plus the price is good." Tess
"Kat and Jac are both really friendly and helpful. There is lots of one to one support when needed" Harriet
