The sexologist is the specialist who deals with sexology in the various application areas of research and clinical activity. In a general sense, the term can indicate any medical-scientific figure who works in the area of ​​human sexuality and sexual health such as the andrologist or gynecologist but also the sociologist or anthropologist of sexual behavior. However, it is customary that the title of sexologist is used both in common language and in the scientific one to indicate the professional figure of the psychotherapist psychologist formally specialized in sexology and more specifically defined as clinical sexologist or psychosexologist. In addition to specific skills regarding the psychological and relational dimension of sexuality, the clinical sexologist needs a adequate knowledge of the anatomical, physiological and pathophysiological aspects of the normal sexual response and of its possible dysfunctions.
