About this course

Ideally candidates should have been employed within the sheet extrusion environment for a period of no less than 3 months and have some knowledge of the process requirements from either a direct operational, associated support role or supervisory perspective.

Course Content

This course is delivered using a blend of theoretical instruction and practical reinforcement sessions, to provide opportunities for group discussion and individual guided learning.

Objectives of the course

On completion of the course the delegates will be able to:

  • Identify process hazards, state safety requirements and apply safe working practices
  • Start up and shut down a sheet extrusion line safely and efficiently
  • Detail the construction, control and operation of a sheet extrusion machine
  • Identify relevant ancillary equipment and describe its usage and maintenance
  • Describe common sheet die construction principles and die maintenance procedures
  • Describe the nature of plastic materials and list common types and grades
  • List common extrusion problems and suggest remedial actions
  • State common quality systems, techniques and quality requirements associated with the sheet extrusion process
  • Appreciate the importance of sheet quality, and how it will be used in aftermarket applications

Qualification

Material covered has been aligned to the content of an NVQ at Level 2 and can be used as underpinning knowledge towards achieving the award, if so desired.
