Shooting on the Z1
These five very intensive days of practical learning are aimed at production people who are being asked to work alone, or in small teams, shooting and recording on Z1 cameras. This course will teach you how to operate the camera so you shoot and record something that is transmittable!
Each day starts with a short lecture on basic theory, with illustrations and demonstrations designed to increase your learning. These will be followed by practical exercises with set briefs on:
- Camera set up, exposure and white balance
- Auto operation; Manual operation
- Framing - composition and steadiness
- Sound and Microphones (Basic single-person operation)
- Using natural light; shooting in low light
- Formats
- Safety measures and shooting disciplines
- Shooting for the edit; shots and sequences;
- Cutaways and wild track sound
All practical exercises are graded to become gradually more complex as the week progresses. The final exercise is shooting a "personal" project. Practical sessions will be viewed and de-briefed in the evening, so as to allow as much time as possible to shoot/record.
Please note: This is not a directing course; we will show you how to operate the camera effectively. You will not be taught how to direct.
