To provide Operatives and Supervisors with the skills and knowledge to perform their respective duties when signing, lighting and guarding to the standards prescribed by City & Guilds and in-line with the NRSW Act 1991, in order to safeguard themselves and others. Suitable for: This programme is designed for Operatives and Supervisors who have to erect or monitor the erection of signing, lighting and guarding for work on the roadways and highways.

Content
- New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
- Basic principles of signing, lighting and guarding
- Traffic control measures
- Practical use of the Code of Practice

Knowledge
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Understand the basic principles of the NRSW Act 1991 and standards prescribed by City & Guilds
- Identify and use correct traffic control measures
- Erect and dismantle signing, guarding and lighting safely and in accordance with the supporting Code of Practice
- Correctly and confidently operate the equipment used
Training Methods
A high proportion of discussion and simulated assessments supplemented with video and classroom based tutorials and progress tests. Please note Operatives will be assessed by way of practical tests and oral questioning and Supervisors by written assignments and observation exercises.
A training group may contain only Operatives however, a minimum of 2 Operatives must be available for Supervisors to carry out observation exercises for monitoring signing, lighting and guarding activities, thus enabling the most effective development of these candidates.
Additional Information
Upon successful completion delegates will receive City & Guilds unit accreditation by way of a certificate. Passport photos for SWQR cards are only required when undertaking a full qualification.
In-house ID cards may be issued at the discretion of Citrus Training upon request, for which a passport photograph is to be supplied on the day of training. For courses held at our centre in Wellingborough we can provide this service on your behalf using our on-site digital camera.
Delegates attending this course should be physically and mentally fit to withstand the rigours of training.
