Course review:

We are delighted to offer you a paper making workshop run by professional paper sculptor, Alison Simpson. This workshop is designed to be a taster in small-scale paper making for printing and book arts. It is aimed at absolute beginners and those wishing to access the workshop to make handmade papers.

After a brief introduction, the day is scheduled for a hands-on experience experimenting with different fibres and pulps in various sizes.

At the end of the workshop you will have developed knowledge of the papermaking process, sheet forming experience, further creative possibilities with paper and have a selection of handmade papers at the end of this workshop to take home.

You will gain knowledge of pulp preparation and sheet formation using linters (short cotton fibers) and recycled papers.

Further techniques of pigmenting, layering, pulp painting, inclusions (adding other items for decorative effect) and alternative approaches to manipulating the pulp.

Experimentation, reflection and discussion will be encouraged in order to combine papermaking techniques with beginners or existing skills allowing for new creative developments.

Cotton linters and use of pigments are included in the course fee.
