Social Care and Well-being - FdSc

The FdSc Social Care and Well-being aims to provide you with a greater understanding of the health and social care sector and the issues facing societies from both a national and global perspective. Our course will develop your knowledge of current social care and well-being policy developments. It will also encourage you to consider the current and future needs of individuals and societies and ensure that the views of service users and carers are represented.

You will examine diverse factors that impact on social care and well-being from a range of perspectives. This will include sociological and psychological theories and legal and ethical issues. You will look at challenges to delivering social care and well-being and how individuals can ensure that the views of service users and carers are represented.

The experiences of individuals are examined across the life span and take into account national and international approaches to care delivery. Other aspects include: culture and ethnicity, social inclusion/exclusion, stigma and anti-discriminatory practice and team working.

Alongside the theoretical side of the course, your development as an individual is promoted through the development of skills for life-long learning. These include development of interpersonal skills, personal development planning and other skills that will enhance your employability. Different assessment approaches will help you focus on areas of interest and develop critical analysis skills.

You will need to be working or volunteering in appropriate social and health care environments so that you can apply theory to practice.
