Course programme

Year 1

You will study a range of level 3 topics, dependent on your university progression plans, taken from sociology and psychology as well as English for academic study. All learners will develop their study skills in preparation for university and these are also core units in the programme and embedded within the course topics.
In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to take an additional GCSE alongside the Access course if this is needed for progression onto particular university courses. It is expected that you will undertake up to 15 hours of self-study each week to support your classroom-based subjects.

Additional information

You will be assessed by both coursework and exams; during your studies you will compile a portfolio of evidence for external moderation by the exam board. Your coursework will be assessed in a number of ways to help you to prepare for the demands of university: essays, reports, controlled assessments, presentations and seminars may all be used, as well as online-based assessment using Moodle or ‘blend-space’. Written assessments will be submitted via our Turnitin webpage to familiarise you with anti-plagiarism software used by universities.
