This Build your own MA (BYOMA) short course examines the emerging phenomenon of social media in relation to traditional broadcasting on both television and radio. It explores current practices and theories and the impact new technologies are having on traditional ideas around content and audiences.
In addition, this short course will develop these themes to closely analyse new media environments and experiences, as audiences become more involved in media production themselves. Finally, it will explore the changing relationship between different media and new practices that are the result of these new mutual instances of cross media production.
We've designed this course to be flexible to the needs of working professionals, so we aim to minimise your time away from the workplace and only ask you to join us for two days in Bournemouth to complete the two day creative retreat, which is held on a Friday and Saturday and kick-starts the course. It's an intensive and valuable experience, giving you the chance to meet your fellow students and engage with the academic team.
This course allows you to strengthen your CV and build your skill set at the same time. The retreat at the beginning of the course provides a firm foundation for the following seven weeks where you will explore the concepts in more detail - using our online learning environment and discussion forums.
The online element of the course helps to prepare you for the academic assignment. On successful completion of this assignment you will be awarded 20 academic credits (Level 7 - Master's/Postgraduate level) which can be built upon by undertaking other short courses with us, working towards your own tailored postgraduate qualification.
