Pursue research, analysis and equity work in fields that emphasize people, communities, cultural diversity, communication skills and analytical reasoning such as government, community organizations, labour-management relations, human resources, public relations, marketing, education, media and the arts. You may work as a statistical data analyst, research analyst, market analyst, research and insights consultant, data visualization and analytics specialist, teacher, diversity and equity consultant, settlement consultant or child and youth worker. You may also choose to complete graduate studies in sociology or related fields or pursue a professional program in education, business or law.

About this course

Sociology explores society and the promise of, and resistance to, social change. Studying the essential themes of power, inequalities, and movements for equity and social justice will help you develop a critical understanding of social media, cities and their challenges, immigration and belonging, and Indigenous perspectives. Experiential learning highlights include international and community engagement projects, advanced research training, a capstone bridging course and an optional thesis. You’ll enter your career with specialized knowledge of how we shape society and how it structures our lives.

Typically, a minimum overall average of 70% establishes eligibility for admission consideration; subject to competition individual programs may require higher prerequisite grades and/or higher overall averages:

A minimum grade of 70% or higher will be required in Grade 12 U English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred).
