What is the course about?
A Level Sociology will help you make sense of the society we live in and understand the culture and identity issues that affect us all. The course provides a smooth transition from GCSE Sociology, but this is not a prerequisite for studying A Level Sociology.
AS Level - Year 1
The first year of the course introduces you to sociological concepts about culture, identity, power and social class. You will also look at sociological research methods. The topic area of Unit 1 is Families and Households. The topic area of Unit 2 is Education. Unit 2 also includes sociological methods.
A2 Level - Year 2
You will build on your understanding and skills in the second year of the course. The approach is more theoretical and you will become more critically aware of contemporary social processes and change. The topic area of Unit 3 is Beliefs in Society. The topic area of Unit 4 is Crime and Deviance. Unit 4 also covers sociological theories and methods.
