Course description Sociology is the study of society and the following units are studied:AS -Families & Households Education & Research MethodsA2 - Mass Media Crime & Deviance with Theory & MethodsSome of the issues that will be examined include:- The reasons for changes in family structure including reasons why there has been a rise in cohabitation same sex relationships and single parent families.- The explanations for differences in educational achievement such as why girls outperform boys and why middle-class students outperform working-class students.- How different social groups are represented within the media such as women ethnic groups lesbian / gay and disabled people- The reasons for differences in offending such as gender social class and ethnic differences.

3. Entry requirements Five or more GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths. You also need to have achieved at least one GCSE grade B preferably in History or Geography. Also subject to QCA score.

5. Assessment method AS - The first unit is assessed through a one hour examination and the second unit is assessed through a two hour examination. Both take place in May.A2 - The first unit is assessed through a one and a half hour examination and the second unit is assessed through a two hour examination. Both take place in June.
