Course programme
This practical course is for students who would like to gain greater confidence in soldering. Several different methods of hard soldering will be explored, and you will have the opportunity to work in both base metal and silver.
On day 1 we will cover pallion soldering, stick feeding and sweat soldering, as well as appropriate use of binding wire and tweezers. Students will make base metal samples for their future reference.
Day 2 will focus on troubleshooting for soldering with silver - how best to prepare pieces before soldering; when to use too much solder, when not to; the practical suitability of tension, butted and recessed joins for particular designs; hollow forms; multiple joins in one piece, and how to solder neatly.
Entry requirements
In order to be able to attend this course you should have some basic experience of soldering. You should therefore have completed at least one jewellery class previously.
Please note: This course is for students aged 18 and older
