Course programme

A two-day Safety Passport course for people working in a Food and Drink processing / manufacturing environment.This SPA course gives participants an understanding of general health and safety and the specific hazards associated working in the food and drink manufacturing industry. The programme focuses on food hygiene, environmental concerns and health and safety and considers the implications for cost, business, job security and risk of injury if these are not properly considered.

The course is split into the 'Core' day which covers general Health and Safety and the 'Sector' day which addresses the particular hazards encountered in the Food and Drink processing/manufacturing industry and also hygiene awareness.

Core Day

  • Organising for safety - including responsibilities, duties and risk assessment
  • Workplace safety - including workplace safety requirements, behavioural safety, safety signs, working at heights, display screen equipment
  • Plant and machinery - including work equipment, electricity and noise.
  • Health - including hazardous substances, COSHH, manual handling and stress
  • Procedures - including safe systems of work, emergency procedures, fire, accident reporting and first aid requirements
  • The environment - including pollution and waste, employers and employees responsibilities

Food and Drink Day

  • Food protection - including food contamination, safe working practices, reporting of illnesses, hygiene systems and legal requirements
  • Environmental protection - including environmental damage and pollution and waste disposal
  • Health and safety - general overview of hazards and risk

Successful candidates will be awarded a Safety Passport card. The Safety Passport is valid for 3 years, after which a 1-day refresher can be taken to extend the Passport's validity for a further 3 years.
