Course programme
Spanish GCSE
GCSE
Our GCSE evening course runs for approximately 30 weeks.
Level of Spanish needed to begin the course
No previous knowledge of the language is necessary. However, those with some previous knowledge of the language and/or experience of language learning will find this/these advantageous in the early stages of the course. This is a fairly intensive and express course, which covers the AQA GCSE syllabus in 1 year.
Course Content
The course covers the language needed to cope with a range of everyday situations which might arise during a visit to Spain or when hosting a visit from Spanish friends (eg asking for and giving directions, getting information at the tourist office, checking into a hotel, travelling, shopping, eating out) and develops general conversational skills (talking about ourselves, our families, interests, jobs, studies, etc). Listening and reading comprehension skills are also developed. Though grammar is not a major part of the course, we do look at the basic workings of the language. New language is reinforced and practised during the conversation sessions, using games, structured role-play dialogues and other activities. In the lead up to the examination these sessions will be used to help you to prepare for the oral assessment.
Please note that this is an examination course. Students will sit the following AQA-set GCSE examinations at the end of the course
Listening : 25%
Speakng : 25%
Reading : 25%
Coursework (or written paper) : 25%
Materials Needed
Course material will be provided. There is normally a small charge for photocopying. It is useful, though not essential, to have a Spanish - English dictionary. Other useful materials can be purchased from the college: Eg. GCSE Vocabulary Guide, GCSE Speaking Test Guide, GCSE Grammar guide.
