Our Spanish & Latin American Studies with a year abroad BA gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in all aspects of Spanish and Hispanic language, literature and cultural history at a world-class university in the heart of London. The department is especially strong in medieval and early modern studies, and modern literatures and cultures from Spain and Latin America. Our tradition of excellence in teaching and research provides an education for life, as well as the linguistic expertise and cultural awareness that are so much in demand in today's job market.

The year abroad also offers the opportunity to apply for the English Language Assistantship Programme or to undertake an internship/work placement in a Spanish-speaking environment (typically sourced by students themselves).

Year 1

Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

  • Global Iberias (30 credits)
Optional Modules

Select four modules, totalling 60 credits, from a range of options, which may typically include:

  • Introduction to Spanish American Narrative (15 credits)
  • From Frontier to Empire: Cultures in Contact in the Medieval & Early Modern Iberian Worlds (15 credits)
  • Introduction to Modern Hispanic Culture (15 credits)
  • Spain in the 20th Century (15 credits)
