All students on a full AS / A2 level programme are expected to have at least five GCSEs grades A* to C. These should include at least a grade B in a foreign language.

Spanish from Scratch
At Barton Peveril you can now study Spanish AS with no previous knowledge of the language.
You will work with people who also have little or no experience of learning Spanish and so need not worry that you have no background in the language. The AS course is a one year course of 5 hours per week, alongside this, students will attend another 5 hours a week of GCSE Spanish lessons.
Before you make up your mind, remember that Spanish is;
- Spoken in 23 countries
- The third most spoken language after Mandarin Chinese and English

Knowledge of a foreign language is highly valued in the world in which we live and is a very useful skill for life or future careers.
What Will I Learn on this Course?
Through pair, group and class work and with the help of the Spanish Assistant you will acquire the skills to express your ideas on a whole range of topics ranging from current affairs, social problems, daily life, food and drink, sport and pastimes and the arts.
You will be encouraged to acquire an active interest in the culture and current affairs of Spanish-speaking countries.
To enable you to practice all four skills in an integrated manner, a wide range of activities will be used. The language is taught using Spanish Language texts and audio visual materials which make learning easy as well as fun.

Students can continue Spanish at A2 level.
You can use the language skills you've gained in a wide variety of jobs.
Subject Combinations
Spanish combines well with all other subjects at any level.
Successful students combine Spanish with another language.
