The programme aims to ensure that students are prepared to promote health and social well- being through the achievement of the standards of proficiency of specialist community public health nursing (NMC 2004) and adherence to The Code (NMC, 2018).

Practitioners are challenged to consider the socio-economic, political and professional factors that influence and reflect health care demands and provision. They are facilitated in developing their knowledge and skills to enhance the provision of health care, by applying appropriate theory, research and evidence, to reflect contemporary perspectives. Emphasis is placed upon acknowledging the multi-dimensional nature of human beings and providing health promoting care through collaborative working.

Health visitors and School Nurses as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses will have the scope to develop strategies to expand their capacity to lead public health practice and participate in local health plans. The role for health visitors and school nurses focuses on individual, family and community centred public health to improve and tackle health inequalities. The ultimate aim is for you to mature into someone with the skills, knowledge and understanding to function as a valuable member of the community, and become a reflective, evidence-based and innovative practitioner as you deliver a client-centred programme of care.
