Course programme

This course will research the History of Counselling, particularly media perception of children. You will learn the development of children within the family system and Comparisons within Developmental Theories youth culture and the influences within todays society, theories of bonding and attachment, Tyler’s Report 1978 & Thompsons report of 1982,: The development of the Children’s Act 1989, 2002, Legislation, Boundaries in the relationship and legalities regarding confidentiality,The Counselling Relationship, and an introduction to Brain Science. This course ethos will be rooted in the spirit of learner orientated development, embedded in the person centred model, integrating Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Solution Focused, and CBT theories and applications of working and intervention. You will learn play therapy and the use of media, including sand tray, crystals, painting, storytelling and poetry, as techniques to aid intervention and relationship, with Psychodrama and role play as techniques to aid change. Egan’s 3 stage Model of Counselling is introduced for techniques and models of working with young people who may be making major lifestyle changes or career choices. :You will learn a repetoire of new skills and techniques underpinned by theoretical applications, to aid the counselling relationship with a variety of issues, e.g. Bullying, Substance Misuse, Bereavement & Loss, >Divorce and Separation, Physical, Emotional and Sexual Abuse,School Phobia Depression Anxiety, O.C.D.,Eating Disorders in children, Moving house and/or School, Cultural differences & Diversity, Equality and balance, Access to services, This course will teach presentation skills, and you will be required to participate in a number of internal assessments and a book review>
