Content
Learners will gain an understanding of the structure of the sport and leisure industry and gain the skills and knowledge for employment in sports development or coaching. The programme consists of six units: - Health, Safety and Injury, Preparation for Sport, The Body in Sport, Sports Leadership Skills, Instructing Exercise and Fitness and Practical Sport.

Key Skills will also form part of your course. These are transferable skills which play an essential role in developing personal effectiveness for adult and working life. These are Communications; ICT and Numeracy.

Additionality
Learners will have the opportunity to gain other qualifications such as assistant resistance instructor, FA Coach Level 1, community sports leader award and personal safety awareness. As part of the course, learners will be required to participate in compulsory study visits and purchase a College polo shirt / t shirt. These costs will be confirmed at interview.

Assessment Assessments are internally assessed by the course tutors and learners will be required to keep a Portfolio of Evidence of work. The method of learning is a mixture of both tutor led and practical sessions and learners are required to fully participate in both classroom based and practical activities. It should be noted that this is a theory based course. Learners can participate in practical sport from the wide range of enrichment activities available around their timetable Progression Upon successful completion, this qualification will enable you to progress onto the Btec National Diploma Sport, other National programmes or other vocational certificates. Successful learners may also apply for a wide range of jobs within the sport and leisure industry, such as: -Health and Lifestyle Services, Health and Fitness Facilities, Coaching, Teaching, Professional Sport and Performance, Health Promotion, Community Development Officers and Sports Development Officers.
