Programme Description:
BTECs are vocationally related qulaifications, where learners develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context. Additionally, they are popular and effective because they engage learners to take responsibility for their own learning and to develop skills that are essential for the modern day workplace. These skills include: team working; working from a prescribed brief; working to deadlines; presenting information effectively; and accurately completing administrative tasks and processes. BTEC Firsts motivate learners, and open doors to further study and responsibility in the work place.
The BTEC Sport Level 2 course is a one year full time programme which focuses on developing skills, knowledge and understanding to enable learners to gain future employment within the field of sport and leisure. The course provides learners with opportunites to:
Link education and the world of work in engaging, relevant and practical ways.
Enhance their English and mathematical competence in relevant, applied scenarios.
Develop transferable interpersonal skills, including working with others, problem solving, independent study, and personal, learning and thinking skills.
Provide learners with a route through education that has clear progression pathways into further study or an appenticeship.
Learners will complete 360 guided learning hours for the Extended Certificate covering 12 units of study. As part of the programme learners will also complete Essential Skills in Communication and Application of Number, and activities on WEST to develop their literacy and numeracy skills. Opportunities will also be provided to improve grades in GCSE English, Welsh and Mathematics. Sports Academy will also be included as part of the programme.

Entry Requirements
Learners will require a minimum of 2 GCSEs at grades A* - C, which includes English/Welsh first language and a D in Maths or vice versa. Progressions from BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Sport with a distinction profile is also accepted.
All applicants are assessed on an individual basis and will be offered the opportunity to attend an interview. Advisory interviews are available prior to application.

Programme Content:
The course is made up of core, mandatory and optional specialist units. The 2 core units must be passed to successfully complete the course. They are:
- Fitness for Sport and Exercise which is externally assessed through an online exam.
- Practical sport which is assessed through video analyis of performance and individual reviews of skills, techniques and tactics.
The mandatory unit looks at the role of the two main body systems in the production of skills and efficient movement. It is essential to develop a good knowledge of body systems for progression in the sports sector. The unit is:
- Anatomy and Physicology for Sports Performance which is externally assessed through an online exam.
The specialist optional units covered are all assessed internally through assignments. Criteria is met using a variety of methods including written reports, presentations, practical performance and case studies. The optional units studied are:
- The Mind and Sports Performance
- The Sports Perfromer in Action
- Training for Personal Fitness
- Leading Sports Activities
- Promotion and Sponsorship in Sport
- Lifestyle and Well Being
- Injury and the Sports Performer
- Running a Sports Event
- The Sport and Active Leisure Industry
Alongside the main programme of study learners will have the opportunity to complete Essetial Skills in Comms. and AON at Level 2 if not already achieved as well as GCSE English and Maths.
