Programme Description:
This is a new two year Level 3 programme which focuses on the development of knowledge and understanding on Sports Development, the concepts of Coaching and the principles of fitness.
This course enables learners to develop their independent learning skills and allows excellent transition into a Sport occupation or onto a Sport Degree.
In Year 1 students are enrolled on a Foundation Diploma which is equivalent to 1.5 A level. On successful completion of year 1 students in year 2 will either be enrolled on Diploma which is equivalent to 2 A levels or the Extended Diploma which is the 3 A levels.
The course consists and the students will study a variety of modules all related to the qualification. Students will study 7 modules in Year 1 and 7 Modules in year 2 .Alongside the course the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate will be delivered and studied.Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of this qualification. it includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to this vocational course. There are 3 main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of; External, Internal and Synoptic.

Progression and Employment:
With the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, students can progress straight into employment or progress into Higher Education. There are a wide variety of prospective careers that students can investigate, for example: Health and Fitness Instructor, Sports Therapist, Sports Development officer, or Sports Coach, Sports Management, Sports Analysist and many more
Other careers where the study of Sport would be useful could include the emergency services and the armed services.
The Level 3 extended Diploma in Sport Development and Coaching is equivalent to three GCE A Levels and offers good progression into higher education. Successful BTEC national qualifications gives UCAS points for university applications.

Method of Assessment 3 forms of assessment: External Internal Synoptic These forms of assessments are set by the course's Awarding body Pearson (BTEC) Therefore are non -negotiable. Below is an outline of how each year is assessed. Year 1 Unit 1 & 2 are external. The external assessments are examination based. These units must be passed to successfully complete year 1. Units 3,4,5,7 & 8 are Internal and are completed by summative assignments. However evidence for these assignments and the structure of them can vary from video analysis & voice recording to powerpoint presentation, case studies, practical evidence & mastery tests. Year 2 Unit 19 is External. This is a large piece of coursework that gets submitted to Pearson to be externally marked. Units 6,10,18, 23,24,25 are Internal and are completed by summative assignments. However evidence for these assignments and the structure of them can vary from; video analysis & voice recording to powerpoint presentations, case studies, practical evidence & mastery tests. IMPORTANT- All work is grades at a Pass, Merit or Distinction. With the internal assessments there is only one submission, failure to submit on time can result in failing a unit which will consequently have an impact on overall course grades and successful completion of the qualification
