Course programme

Entry Requirements

You must have successfully completed a Level 2 programme of learning with GCSEs or vocational qualifications including FIVE GCSEs or equivalent qualifications including Maths, English, Science & PE.

Delivery and Assessment

The course will be mainly delivered through taught classes and lectures with some learning taking place using the college VLE (Moodle) and other electronic means including YouTube and other web based software. Assessment on the course will be varied and could involve written assessments, individual and group presentations, production of booklets and by practical performance. There will also be an external component of assessment in the form of synoptic assessments and examinations which will be sent off to the exam board for marking and assessment.

Progression

If you have completed this qualification in a year you may progress to further learning at Level 3, for example to a second Foundation Diploma in a complementary sector; or to a larger size BTEC National in the sport sector, such as the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport Development and Coaching. In addition to the sport sector specific content outlined above, the requirements of the qualification will mean you develop the transferable and higher order skills that are highly regarded by both HE and employers. Study of sport particularly encourages the development of skills such as teamwork, leadership, performance analysis, resilience, evaluation, analysis and synthesising concepts. These skills are developed through the variety of approaches to teaching and learning enabled by the specification, for example the qualification includes a research project and research methods unit that require students to apply appropriate research methods to a self-selected problem in sport. This qualification is designed primarily to support progression to employment after further study at university. However, it also supports you if you choose to progress directly to employment. It will give you some knowledge and understanding, which will give you an advantage when applying for a range of entry level roles, such as leisure or recreation assistant or receptionist, in sports and leisure centres. Some jobs in the sport and leisure industry may require additional industry qualifications alongside the BTEC Diploma in Sport.
