This course is concerned with the business and management aspects of sport and fitness organisations. As the demand for competent managers in this area has grown rapidly in recent years, you will be provided with a sound basis for a successful career in management within the sport related industries.

This innovative course successfully blends practical and theoretical aspects of management with an understanding of the business environment in which sport and fitness organisations function.

Exemptions for the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management are available and the course structure allows for specialisation in particular areas of sport and fitness.

Sport is one of the most important industries in the UK in terms of interest, participation and consumer spending. The sports market is a varied one, consisting of sports products (clothing, footwear, equipment, publications etc) as well as sports services (participant sports, gambling, spectator sports, sports media, sport related travel, health and fitness etc.).

Thus, there is an increasing need for sports managers within the industry, who have a strong grounding in the unique nature and environment of sport. This course is designed to help you develop such skills.

The development of communication, information retrieval, presentation, research and analytical skills is an important aim of the course.

The course is delivered by experienced teaching staff who have recognised expertise in various facets of the subject. In addition, the majority of staff are research active, ensuring that the course remains at the 'cutting edge', and that you are made aware new developments in the field as they happen.

You are also encouraged to develop your own interests throughout the course, culminating in the final year project, where you are able to explore a topic of your choice in depth.
