Our pioneering programme is designed to prepare you for the certification requirements of the International Society of Performance Analysis of Sport. You will learn to design evidence based, sport specific performance analysis interventions based on a needs analysis, and you will gain the practical skills essential for communicating with athletes and coaches.
You will gain experience in the sport and exercise environment through our work placement module. One of our partner organisations is Saracens Rugby Club, whose current players include England internationals Steve Borthwick, Owen Farrell and our facilities at their nearby Allianz Park stadium boast world class performance laboratories, rehabilitation units and testing facilities. Qualifications
We normally require a second class honours degree 2:1 or above in a sport or exercise related field
We would also welcome applications from students with undergraduate degrees in all sciences, maths and IT areas
Students with a 2:2 degree may be considered at our discretion

Course content
What will you study on MSc Sport Performance Analysis?
Our specialist degree covers relevant topics such as performance indicators, performance profiling, reliability testing, creating bespoke performance report sheets, statistical analysis, whilst utilising industry standard software such as Sportscode, Dartfish and Quintic analysis packages.
These topics allow you to develop your expertise as a performance analyst, ensuring that you understand relevant techniques and procedures for a number of different scenarios, which you would expect to face as an analyst. You’ll also receive training on research methods which will help you with your dissertation, where you can pursue a topic of interest or even a research question that has arisen during your placement.

Performance Analysis (30 Credits) - Compulsory
This module aims to allow students to critically engage in the process of analysis of sports performance. It also aims to develop students' research skills so they may generate analysis data for appropriate dissemination to both coaches and athletes. Students will gain the ability to critically analyse research in order to design, interpret and synthesise analysis data and literature. Finally, this module aims to prepare students for the certification requirements of ISPAS.
Biometric Modelling (30 Credits) - CompulsoryThis module aims to provide the students with the ability to systematically undertake a technical analysis of sports performance. Students will also learn how to analyse technique in relation to an applied problem. Students will act with initiative in decision making when providing athletes feedback via the use of appropriately selected software packages.
Research Methods (30 Credits) - CompulsoryThis module is designed to provide a critical overview of the main methods and approaches used for research into topic areas related to psychology and performance analysis, and to equip the student to apply this knowledge in planning a research proposal. The module affords students opportunities to appraise the strengths and weaknesses of published work in their specialist area, or in health care in general. Students will learn in groups and will explore philosophical, ethical and methodological differences which underpin various approaches to knowledge generation that can inform health care work. Interprofessional workshops will allow the student to develop a research proposal, to consider its adequacy and limitations, and justify the approach taken.
Professional Placement (30 Credits) - CompulsoryThis module aims to develop the student s ability to apply and see the application of knowledge gained from other modules in relation to a real work scenario. You will be required to adopt a reflective and critical approach to your working practice and to promote a problem-solving approach in a work environment.
Dissertation (60 Credits) - CompulsoryTo support students to undertake research, with a focus appropriate to their programme and area of practice and building upon the research proposal formulated in SES4430.
To create a peer learning community for students to critically support each other in the research process.
To provide guidance, additional to that provided by the students supervisors, on matters of ethical application, research methods, data collection, analysis and writing-up.
