Course programme

BSc (Hons) Sport Science and Coaching
Mode: full-time

There has never been a better time to become a coach, or to develop your coaching skills, and several recent developments indicate that this will continue to be the case. The successful bid for the 2012 Olympics was based on providing a legacy for sport and this has provided a catalyst for change in the UK.

The Government-supported UK Action Plan for Coaching has also been implemented, setting out how coaching will develop between now and 2016.

Effective coaching is complex and demanding, and requires high levels of knowledge and skill. Studying coaching science at the University of Bedfordshire will give you the opportunity to specialise in the academic study of sports coaching.

The course has a scientific/ academic underpinning, while giving you the necessary qualifications and practical skills to be a successful coach and/or instructor.

Coaches are encouraged to become critically reflective and socially adaptable, employing evidence-based, rather than belief-based, approaches to their professional work.

Areas of study include:

  • Psychology of Sport and Exercise
