Sport Studies - Advanced - BTEC National Diploma
The Sport Department has excellent facilities including an all-weather football pitch, sports hall and fitness suite. It has teams in many sports who compete and train on a regular basis.

What will I study?
You will complete nine units in the first year and nine in the second year. The course is coursework-based, but practically taught and related.
You will cover the following units: Year one:
· Body in action.
· Team sports.
· Fitness testing for sport.
· Training for sport.
· Health & safety.
· Sports coaching.
· Sports development.
· Exercise health and lifestyle.
· Rules and regulations
Year two:
· Leadership in sport.
· Instructing physical activity and exercise.
· Psychology for sports performance.
· Exercise for specific groups.
· Sports nutrition.
· Talent identification.
· Analysis of performance.
· Working with children.
· Sports injuries.

How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed through coursework.

What enrichment will there be?
Activities include:
· Trampolining and gymnastics.
· Squash.
· Rowing.
· Climbing.
· Exercise for fitness.
· Multi skills tournaments.
· Intra-college tournaments.
· Volunteering and leadership.

What could I do next?
You can go on to further training and take up careers in areas like sports leadership and leisure management. You can also progress on to diploma and degree courses in many different subjects.
On successful completion of the course, you may choose to seek employment in a range of jobs including sports science, sport rehabilitation, sports management, sports teaching, sports therapy and coaching.
