2. Course description Summary: A practical sports course suitable for those aspiring to study higher education or entering employment in sport coaching & development roles Course description: The Sport Performance and Excellence course includes both theory and practical sport. It will test your sporting knowledge and your own practical ability by covering skills and theory based modules whilst also developing your technical and tactical sports understanding. The Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport consists of 7 Units and is equivalent to 1 A Level. The second year leads on to a second A Level and deepens skills and knowledge around key subject areas. Specific modules that could be studied include: - Anatomy and Physiology - Assessing Risk in Sport - Sports Nutrition - Fitness Training and Programming - The Athlete's Lifestyle - Sports Psychology - Sports Coaching - Sports Injuries (potential 2nd year module) - Sports Exercise Massage (potential 2nd year module) In addition to your main programme, if required, you will have the opportunity to study English and Maths. Depending on your grades on entry, you will study either Functional Skills or GCSE's English and Maths. Please check our English and Maths page for further information. Those that have a C grade or above in Maths or English will also be undertaking the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction. Assessment: Assessment is varied and will combine a variety of methodologies including written, presentations and professional discussion.
